ANDRE AUSTIN: STYLE AT WORK

1 Comment 05 October 2012 | By

Andre Austin or “A Squared” (like DSquared) as I like to call him, just because it sounds like the title of a bad-ass stylist. This particular bad-ass stylist has conquered his territory and can happily throw shoes and clothes on someone amazingly without having to bat an eyelid. Who do you think was style mastermind behind The Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way”? Yes, it was Andre Austin; all white is a hard look to pull off normally, but with Andre’s help it looked effortless and completely “90s boy band” friendly.

Of course you can imagine my excitement upon learning that he’s worked with photographer Terry Richardson in the past…enough said- that speaks for itself. Andre effectively captivates the mood and theme of whatever project he’s working on, whether it be prepping Jay-Z for the cover of i-D magazine or creating a sporty-meets-couture editorial look book for Charlatan (which I never thought possible as an I-hate-exercise kind of person).

Andre’s the kind of stylist that manages to make you want to pick up a basketball, simply because he made it look like the perfect accessory rather than the property of Lebron James. There’s always an element of focus about his work – it could be a statement print or a contrast of colour; something eye catching and original that marks a particular look as “Andre Austin” and not anyone else.
