Summer – to most is the liberation from slaving away at school or work and a time to enjoy the sun. Though realistically, I tend to gravitate towards my bed and the refrigerator (unfortunately I have to share that) during the summer. But if you do manage to pull yourself away from your marathon of Gossip Girl, you can’t possibly ignore the inevitable festival spirit that hangs in the air. Festivals are probably one of the hardest things to prepare for, especially if you live in England like some of us, where the weather isn’t usually in your favour and mud is a given. But thanks to fashion, there are many ways to work around any situation and do it with creativity.
Band Tees are probably a gift sent from heaven, but it’s always safer to wear a band whose music you’ve actually listened to, as to avoid any awkward “I thought Smells Like Teen Spirit was a movie…” Although, I do recommend them shredded, cropped, practically destroyed (as they’ll probably end up turning out like that anyway looking at the antics of previous festivals) and paired with stud emblazoned everything else. The grunge look, however epic, isn’t everybody’s thing. Vanessa Hudgens demonstrates the “Boho Chic” look with ease (all that’s missing is a Red Indian feather head dress) with that delicious arm candy and crochet top. Kate Bosworth translates her everyday sleek style into something more casual, but still polished of course. Festivals don’t necessarily mean that you have to throw away your personal style and swap it for your grandma’s old mackintosh and those wellington boots you’ve had since you were about 12. It’s about adapting…and pulling out that crop top you haven’t been able to wear yet. Now you just have to hope the weather’s on your side.
