It seems that when Karl Lagerfeld isn’t making controversial comments on Adele or Pippa Middleton, he’s enjoying the Olympic Spirit, quite like the rest of us mere mortals. Other fashionistas, including Daphne Guinness and Poppy Delevigne joined the designer at the launch of his new Olympic-themed pop up store, exclusively at Selfridges. Expect the classic Lagerfeld image of high collars, white…lots of white, and leather, but all with a metallic touch to bring light to the Olympic theme. Chanel doesn’t come to mind when you see this collection – Lagerfeld has a unique style of his own, which sets Chanel and his own line apart. With Chanel, “chic” is always the word, but his other lines Hogan and Karl both preach a different message. Although the prices are still in that “you-could-buy-a-television-with-that” zone, I can’t help noticing how everything is significantly cheaper than, say, a Chanel bag. Ironically, Lagerfeld claims that he doesn’t even watch the Olympics, but I suppose that doesn’t stop him from producing a drool-worthy collection. It just makes us think that he took a note from Stella McCartney, who designed the official Great Britain Olympic sports wear, and wanted to climb onto the same wagon…or Hummer, to be more fitting. In short, if Lagerfeld was a woman… and a few years younger, this would probably be his wardrobe.
