When I first came across Yayoi Kusama it wasn’t from the Louis Vuitton collaboration, but before, which is odd for me, because usually I only learn about artists after the collaboration. It’s safe to say that I had a moment of excitement when I recognised the name “Yayoi Kusama” in the shop window of Louis Vuitton on New Bond Street, but of course my excitement turned into an overwhelming sensation with the invasion of polka dots in my vision. Yes, if polka dots rock your boat too much and make you feel sea sick, then look away…or get to shore fast. Kusama is famous for her polka dot “obsession”, if you will, and has made some masterpieces exploring this godly shape.
If the spotty nature of this collection isn’t enough to convince you that Marc Jacobs has hit gold with this collaboration, then maybe the fact that Mama Monster a.k.a. Lady Gaga definitely approves, you will be encouraged to join in on the dotty fun. However, the array of accessories and garments that this artistic duo have created for us this season, are generally made for people in a higher tax bracket. But there are alternatives; the amount of times I’ve seen the Kardashian polka dot blouse would make me feel mean if I didn’t give it some credit. The sisters’ Kardashian Kollection has been keeping well on trend with a series of polka dot garments that have been featured…just about everywhere seemingly, but maybe that’s just because I follow all of them on multiple social networking sites.
