We’ve come a long way from the first introduction of pants into the fashion scene and what was once seen as a practical garment has morphed into an essential staple for chic-ness and sophistication in ones wardrobe. If you are strictly a skirts and dresses kind of girl, look away now, after reviewing the collections for this fall, the trouser will be ubiquitously seen in various shapes, styles, fabrics, patterns, and colors. Forget the image you might have had of those dull polyester-blended black trousers you repeatedly wear to the office or the notion that you cannot wear a great pantsuit or a sleek fitting pair to a formal event or an evening engagement. This two-legged garment has transcended all of our expectations and has continually been reinvented to suit us in every occasion all the while leaving lots of room for style.
The fall season (yes it’s daunting to think about it in June), will be the trousers great comeback bringing an exciting selection of minimalism, manipulation of textures, and rich color palettes.
A warm welcome will be from Chloé wool trousers in check patterns, twill straight leg, or drape silhouette. Claire Waight Keller’s maximalist yet minimalistic approach plays with proportions and sharp cuts that are reminiscent of menswear trousers. Empowering women to be daring and wear the pants.
Breaking boundaries, Alexander Wang played with our perceptions of what is innovative fabric use. Think waxed suede, bonded leather, or slouchy merino wool. These statement-makers are far from traditional and the lack of coherence to reflect a certain look makes them all the more exciting.
Fancy-pants take on new meaning with Valentino’s straightforward minimal pieces. The closest to the “classic” pair of pants as you’ll get are with Mr. Garavani’s well-structured strong-lined trousers, well fitting for an elegant soirée.
Keeping the color trend alive although a bit more subdued, 3.1 Phillip Lim uses a monochromatic palette with pumpkin, aubergine, and prune accents to his slim fitting pants and statement pantsuits.
Next season shows promise of re-embracing the flared-retro, modern layered, and the men-inspired with the chance of leaving the famed skinny jeans hanging in the closet.

Great story! There are so many articles out there about jeans, dresses & skirts, that pants are usually skimmed over. I almost forgot how many different styles and cuts of pants are out there! How much fun would it be to dedicate a whole day trying on all of the different style of pants out there :) Ok, if you insist, I’m off to mall for a day of pants shopping :)
Love this, I’m a pants girl, I love to make something masculine look orally feminine…And no girl could go wrong with Wang or Valentino!! Great piece LOS
Nice pants post featuring some of my favorite designers. I really love Chloe and those models always look so put together.
